Important Rate Change Announcement

EFFECTIVE January 22, 2017

USPS Postage Rate Change 2017

The United States Postal Service® has announced a postage rate change increase that will take effect on Sunday, January 22, 2017. The pending change will affect First Class Mail (retail 1oz. letter increasing from 47¢ to 49¢, but metered 1oz. letter decreasing from 46.5¢ to 46¢), Priority Mail (+3.9%), Express Mail (+3.4%), Media Mail and Library Mail (+1.135%). In addition, Standard Mail (also known as Direct Mail) is being re-branded as “USPS Marketing Mail” with no price changes at this time. Also Included are updates to FedEx API to enhance real-time rating, as well as aesthetic improvements of the user interface (color scheme & layout).

Included in this patch are the new FedEx and UPS rates. FedEx will have increases of +3.9% on Express and +4.9% on Ground. UPS will see a +4.9% across the board.

To ensure accurate rate calculation for the affected mail classes and services, your Mail Center Manager Generation 2 or Enhanced Mailing and Shipping System Software (iMCM G2/EMS, Postal Consultant, Postal Manager, Master Accountant, Accountant, Multi-Carrier, Shipper, Network View, or View) will require an update patch. To do so, your company MUST BE UP-TO-DATE on your Software Care Contract prior to installation.

THE UPDATE PATCH FOR THE RATE CHANGE WILL BE AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD BY JANUARY 16TH.

IMPORTANT: MANDATORY BACKUP of G2 Database is required prior to performing any update.

(C) Does your Mailroom Computer Access the Internet?

For those customers whose mailroom computer cannot access the internet, we recommend you make the following arrangements to:

  1. Download the update on a computer that can access the website,
  2. Burn the downloaded file to a recordable CD (or copy it to a USB flash drive), and
  3. Update in this manner

NOTE: You may need to coordinate with your IT Department for access to a computer with Internet access and CD burning / USB flash drive capabilities.

(D) Stations:

If your configuration includes any G2 NETWORK VIEW or G2 View stations, keep in mind that ALL STATIONS MUST be running the same version of G2/EMS in order to access the database. Therefore, ALL STATIONS MUST run the update(s) to remain functional.

IMPORTANT: {Regarding Approved Versions of Windows OS and SQL}: Windows 10 Professional x64 is now a supported OS for EMS connected to an I-Series machine, and only on new OS installations! In-place upgrades from Windows 7 to Windows 10 are not allowed, and will render the application unusable until a clean install of the OS and EMS application can be performed.  Existing installations are also being migrated from SQL 2005 to SQL 2014 to ensure continued Microsoft patching support. There is a supported upgrade path from 2005 to 2014, but it is strongly advised that you allow CBS to perform the migration to avoid data loss.

NOTE: Support of legacy Windows XP and SQL 2005 are now extremely limited. If your system is still running on a legacy system, please contact CBS today for migration options, and avoid possible data loss or system instability.
